Training hath commenced.

At the end of July, Jess and I trekked all about looking for an application to the Shouhashi 1/2 marathon in Nanjo City. When I say we trekked all about, I truly mean we went to two different post offices and Sports Depot in Awase. There was no applications to be found but thankfully the Stroller Warrior Okinawa founder, K., had spare applications -- complete with an English translation sheet. Yahoo!

We filled the applications out, then returned them to the first post office we visited. Paid our fee in yen, and got our receipt. It was official: we were running.

I looked at the internet for different training plans, and settled on a plan made by Hal Higdon, a contributor to Runner's World, first being published in 1966. He has been a runner for over half a century and competed in many races, winning national championships - not to mention multiple appearances at Olympic trials.

I decided on one of his novice plans, and we began yesterday. Mondays are "strength and stretching", which works well because it coincides with our yoga class. I didn't complete any strength training (oops), but I will next week.

Today is our first run. I think I'll do a weekly recap of my training, or perhaps bi-monthly.

What fitness goals have you attempted recently?
