I woke up in a bit of a panic this morning thinking it was well after 7:30, as that's what time Evelyn woke up yesterday (it was magnificent). I checked the clock on my phone and was glad to see that it wasn't quite 6:30 yet. I can thank Evelyn for waking up during her normal hour (between 6:00-6:45) since I didn't set an alarm.
This morning we were able to see the solar eclipse. When I first woke up, the sun was far from the clouds but as I drove to base to get a frappuchino to help celebrate the unique experience of viewing an eclipse in Japan, the clouds started to cover the sun.
I stopped outside of Gate 2 for a little bit to try to snap some pictures, and then stopped again in the parking lot of the zoo to snap some more. The clouds provided a nice barrier so my retinas didn't burn, and I was able to see a little bit of it. By the time of the complete eclipse the clouds had taken over, but I was super excited to see what I was able to.
The eclipse may be hard to see unless you enlarge the picture but I guarantee you, it is there!

| Solar eclipse viewing partner #1 ... she didn't see it, though. Don't mind her belly shirt, it rode up. |
 |
| Partner #2 was not as enthused about the paparazzi as Partner #1. |

| Don't mind the barbed wire... |
 |
| Parked at the zoo to see it a bit more...no more barbed wire! |
