Once Evelyn hit one year old, I decided I would only do the monthly updates every three months. Now as I looked back to see how I titled the monthly updates (it has been so long I couldn't even remember...oops), I see the last one I did was at 11 months.
I took 12 month pictures but forgot to post them. There is a big difference between her at 12 months and her now, between 15 and 16 months, so there is an even bigger difference between her now and at 11 months. Even so, her 11 month post was not shared until one day before her birthday. I must get back on the blogging bandwagon - gee whiz.
Evelyn's hair really started to grow in when we were in the States. She was born with a head full of dark hair, then it fell out and she was completely bald until at least 7 months. When she started to get a few wisps of hair here and there, they were strawberry blonde. Now that it is growing in thicker, it is a dark blonde, perhaps light brown. It still curls in the back, just as it did when it first started growing in. She also has some curls around her ears and on the top, too.
She got her first tooth while we were visiting family in the States, and now she is sporting four teeth. I just bought her an amber teething necklace which came last week, and it seems to help with irritability that I assume was caused by teething pains. I have a hard time knowing when she is in pain from potential teeth (because let's face it, she still has a lot that need to come through...) or if it is just her being a toddler and throwing fits because she is frustrated.
When she first learned to wave, she used her whole arm to say sayonara. She now knows how to bend her elbow while waving, and even bends her wrist sometimes, too. Just this past week she started saying "buh" or "buh buh" (bye or bye bye) when she waves.
She is really good at throwing tantrums, which really embarrasses me. I honestly do not know how to handle when she behaves in such an ornery manner in public, but I try to just ignore it. Well, I ignore it more if we are at home or at a friend's house but if she is causing a scene in public, she gets her butt scooped up and we go sit it out where there are less people. Sometimes they aren't mega long fits and I'll stay wherever we are but if there isn't an end in sight, I don't want to be that lady with the screaming toddler, so I take her out.
She and her good friend Evan (who is 6 months younger than she is) are getting really good at interacting with each other. She is quite bossy and likes to take things away from him but he has gotten to the age where that isn't okay, and so he tries to hold on tighter to whatever she is trying to take away from him. I often try to give him the toy back and give her something else to play with but when she has her mind on something, she is set in her ways. Any advice?
Evelyn can say: banana, ball, uh-oh, oh, owww, all done, mama, dada, and bye / bye bye. When asked what noises puppies and lions make, she can bark and roar. She tries her hardest to oink like a pig, although it is just her snuffling air through her little nostrils.
She gives kisses, hugs, and eskimo kisses. She also (just last night!) learned to say "Shh!" with her finger by her mouth. It is really cute but even cuter because her finger is off center and often accidentally gets put up her nose and she kind of hisses "Shhhh". She will copycat you if you sneeze, or cough.
We haven't worked extensively with signing, but "more" is her favorite sign. Before Dan left, he said it was her "Give me what I want, when I want it" sign because she'd do it often but we often didn't know what she wanted. She has started to make a noise when she signs more. I can't even type it out to make it look like the sounds she makes, but my friend Jess calls it her "more noise". I am starting to work on the "poop" sign, so when it is time for her to start potty training (when is that, anyway?), she can let me know.
She loves to climb on anything and everything. She tries to climb up onto our chairs to get to the iPad or the laptop, and she likes to just randomly climb on the coffee table. Last week at the playground after our run, she climbed all the way up the big slide...the wrong way. Oh - she loves slides!
Here is a little video of Evelyn this morning, after I tried to get some pictures with her and the bear my Granny made. Watch it - it's cute, I promise.
