Last week we noticed Evelyn had a little diaper rash. We used Desitin and Bourdeaux's alternatively but it wasn't improving. In fact, it was getting worse. One afternoon I decided that maybe baby powder would fix it...big mistake. It made it worse.
So worse, in fact, that she cried big, fat tears and tried kicking me when I changed her next diaper. I won't go into details but the poor girl's butt was sore.
I asked for some advice via Facebook and received a few ideas that I hadn't tried yet. When we were in California a friend suggested just poppin' the babe in the shower or bathtub after every diaper change if they had a bad rash. I had forgotten this little tidbit of information so I started rinsing her instead of wiping her.
Another suggestion was an anti-fungal cream so later that day we went out and bought some. The other suggestions -- CJ's BUTTer and Triple Paste aren't available on island though we'll likely buy some with our next Amazon order for any other nasty diaper rash that tries coming our way.
Her rash is finally clearing up...thanks to rinses after every diaper change, bare butt time (she peed on Dan - haha), Lotrimin, and then a layer of Bourdeaux's or Desitin on top to seal any dampness out. She doesn't even cry anymore when we're changing her diaper. Yippee skippy -- it was to the point where I was wishing she didn't have to go to the bathroom until it was cleared up because it hurt to see her hurt so much.
I think the diaper rash was a symptom of an allergic reaction to a food. Even though she loves the food we'll wait until she's one or a bit later to try it again. Shucks. I think it was giving her quite the tummy ache which was causing her inconsolable grumpiness, weird diaper happenings, and then the awful, awful diaper rash.
I'm glad it's clearing up! We put a little CJ's BUTTer on any red areas and they're always completely gone by the next diaper change. In sposies I've also used Burt's Bees butt paste and that worked pretty well too but it smells pretty strong and doesn't soak into the skin very well.
ReplyDeleteJess - CJ BUTTer's sounds pretty popular, I assume you use it in your CDs? What type of CDs do you use? We use pockets and I use the creams / pastes in them but haven't noticed any influence on their absorbency (which is what I think I read somewhere, once upon a time).
