Yeehaw, it's Friday!

It is the end of the week for us here on the island - woohoo! I'm very excited for it to be the weekend but I think Dan is even more excited that it is the weekend. I'm just killing time until I go pick him up so I figure before I work on my homework (boo), I'll blog! I'm not sure if I'll get around to it this weekend because we have a rather full agenda...

First let me share this little picture with you, taken roughly twenty minutes ago. Swaddle-baby in all her swaddled glory. :) We've been trying to keep the heat off so we've been layering up. It was about time for her to hit the hay for a quick snooze once we got back from the AF Base so I swaddled her up.

She tends to wiggle a lot with any other sort of covers so I figured a swaddle would do. I may or may not have had other intentions with the swaddling too -- I want her to take a little more than a 15 minute cat-nap. That's been her thing lately - short little cat naps here and there but no longer naps.

This morning we took Dan to work so I could take Toby to his last quarantine visit. Well, what I thought was his last quarantine visit. His six months of quarantine is up in January and yet I have to take him twice this month? It doesn't make sense to me but I wasn't going to argue about it. The lady who helped me, Junko, was very nice. She even got the door for me on the way out!

I grabbed some lunch on base, went through Burger King's drive-through because it is against base policy to leave animals in the car unattended. It was either Burger King or Popeye's, so I chose BK. All I really wanted was a large diet coke because we've been out for a couple days but I was hungry, too, so I got a kids meal. It was yummy in a I-read-Fastfood-Nation-and-know-how-gross-this-really-is sort of way.

Ev was a fussypants on the way home. Man, I about have a meltdown when she starts crying in the car! Especially when I'm driving, I feel like I'm going to drive into the curb or median. I won't but I just get so frazzled 'cause I can't help her. Thankfully I was able to twist one arm around (Hey Ma - applejack arm!) and adjust her carseat straps, put a binky in, and stroke her face.

I'm not sure which of those three actions, if any, was the magic trick but she settled down after a bit and I didn't end up having to pull over to soothe her. Whew!

We have a BBQ that we're going to attend tomorrow. Either tomorrow or Monday, I guess they aren't quite certain when it'll be yet. Monday if they have a long weekend but Saturday if they don't? Hmm. The couple who is hosting it has a little French Bulldog puppy that looks like a black Stitch (from Lilo & Stitch) so I'm excited to see "Daisy" again.

I'm also interested in seeing how they decorated their house. We looked at the house when we were house-hunting both times but it only had one bedroom and we needed at least two (but preferably three). It has a great view of the ocean, though. It sounds like the house is more trouble than its worth, though, because they'll come home to the landlord in the house without any notice. No thank you!

Tomorrow is also a free-pet giveaway through a kennel on base. It's from 11-1 or 11-3, I can't quite remember. I want to go look but we don't need another pet. I can't imagine walking two dogs and managing the stroller but ahh...doggies! Toby could have a friend! Thankfully we have the BBQ to go to so I don't think we'll be able to go look. Who knows - I'll leave it up to Dan. Ha.

Sunday I'm going to go out and trim some hooves. Eek. I've never trimmed before and though these horses have never had any type of professional farrier work done, I still don't want to be the one to make a mistake or cause any harm. I'm going to have to do a lot of reading up and err on the side of caution and leave them a bit long.

There is so much more to farrier work than just getting them into a nice shape but if there is a way I can help, I'll try my hardest. I may have a lesson after I trim a few horses, it depends on how tired I am. This Western girl is going English -- at least for the next two and a half years.

What is on your agenda for the weekend? Anything fun planned? Have a great one!
