Evelyn's 2 month well baby visit.

Evelyn's 2 month "well baby" visit was this past Tuesday.

Her stats:
Weight: 5.7kg (12lbs 9oz) which is the 76% percentile.
Length: 59cm (23.22 inches) which is the 65% percentile.
Head circumference: 40cm (15.74 inches) which is the 67% percentile.

At her one month visit she was in the 50th percentile for weight, length, and head circumference. Her growth is about even with all three categories with weight being in a little higher than length and head circumference. Or as the doctor said, "She's a chunky monkey."

All her measurements were "good" and we're not supposed to change a thing. I was worried she was going to say she's gaining too much weight and to do something absurd like limit her intake but that was an unfounded fear.

The doctor may've called her a chunky monkey but the nurse made the comment that she's going to be a model, due to her height. I mean, she's "only" in the 65% percentile (compared to the 99% or something) but she is very long. Whenever I'm out and about with her and strike up a conversation with anyone they almost always ask if her Dad is tall. In other words they are nicely insinuating that I'm a shrimp and she has to be getting her height from someone else.

Some developmental milestones that you can expect or look for around 2 months include:
  • Smile in response to people
  • Coo and begin making vowel sounds (ah, eh)
  • Turn to familiar voices or other sounds
  • Focus his/her eyes and follow objects
  • "Find" his/her hands and make purposeful arm movements, start to grasp objects briefly
  • Show pleasure interacting with parents and primary caregivers
  • In the prone position (on their tummy): your infant can lift their head, neck and upper chest with forearms
Some months a baby may not hit the milestones that are common for their age group and I know, thanks to reading lots of "mom blogs" and child-related message boards, that this is perfectly fine. After all, babies are all different. There isn't a baby prototype that they all are mimicking their actions and growth after. So if Ev doesn't hit some milestones in the future, remind me not to freak out too much. I tend to overreact sometimes.

Anyhow, she has hit most of not all of these milestones. I haven't been paying attention to the noises she's been making and if they are vowel sounds, just that she's been "talking" quite a bit. She's most certainly found her hands and enjoys trying to shove her whole fist in her mouth. She loathes tummy time but has a very strong neck and when she is on her tummy, she can lift herself up.

Right now she's sleeping on my chest. D'aw, she's so snuggly and cute.

  1. It is hard not to get caught up in the milestones, huh? I'm trying not to pay too much attention. H. also hate tummy time but can lift his neck...pushing up with arms though? No way! Maybe soon :D

  2. Danielle - Yes, it is hard! Yuck!

Did you get any good advice for tummy time on Twitter? I saw you ask but of course couldn't see who @ replied you with suggestions.

She can kind of push herself up with her forearms if I prop her up on the Boppy but only a tiny bit, so I guess that is one "milestone" that is half completed and half not.

A friend's little boy who is younger than both Ev and H. just rolled over the other day and it didn't seem to be a fluke. Ev has rolled over once but I think it was a mistake. She's content just chillin' out under her playmat.
