Baby #2: Week 17.

I've been slacking on the weekly updates - I can't believe this is the first one I've posted, and I am only three weeks away from being half way done with this pregnancy. Oops! Better late than never, right?

NOTE: I am hoping that I'll get a good photo taken tomorrow at the Ayahashi race to share with my 17 week update. I need to figure out a good area of my house to have weekly pictures taken -- and I need someone to take them. Until then, here is a photo of me last weekend at the Bushido mud run (I was 16 weeks in this photo).

Today is: April 6, 2013

How far along: 17 weeks

Total weight gain: 8lbs according to the doctor, a little more according to my home scale (I started measuring weight gain right when I found out, and the doc started measuring at ~9 weeks when I had my first appointment).

Baby is the size of: An onion...about 5.1" from head to bum, and 5.9 oz (thanks to the Bump for the information).

What's going on with the babe: Baby's cartilage is now turning to bone, and she's putting on fat. Sweat glands are starting to develop.

What's going on with the mama: I'm working on finishing up my second to last week of my internship. Next week will be my final week, and then I'll take a week to put my portfolio together before submitting it to the internship office. Graduation is right around the corner... :)

Baby is a: Most likely a girl, according to the doctor off base. He was 65% sure.

Maternity clothing: Some, especially if I am wanting something super comfortable. I've been wearing the maternity leggings my aunt Terri bought for me from Gap when I was pregnant with Evelyn. I can still fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans but I hate feeling restricted lately - I just want loose and flow-y clothing that I can curl up in easily, haha.

Sleep: I've been more sleepy this week than I have been the rest of my second trimester so far, so I have been going to sleep early (like when Evelyn goes to sleep). I've been waking up at least once or twice to relieve my bladder.

Movement: Itty bitty flutters here and there. I'm pretty sure it is baby but I don't feel like I can be too sure yet. Maybe my insides are just rumbly and adjusting, who knows.

Cravings/Aversions: Just tonight (Saturday) I craved Coco's curry -- so after getting groceries, Evelyn and I went through the drive-thru. I got the vegetable curry (level 3 for spice, which doesn't make any sense unless you've been to Coco's), 200g of rice, and garlic cheese naan. Yum. I can't think of anything else I've felt like I really needed this week -- just minor cravings. Oh -- total impulse buy at the commissary tonight: orange juice. I craved OJ with Evelyn, too. I thought about getting cottage cheese today at the commissary and promptly put it down because imagining eating it made me feel like gagging.

Symptoms:
-This week I have been super hormonal -- crying at many things. I've probably cried at least once per day this week.
-I'm more tired than I have been.
-Nausea. Thankfully no vomiting but I attribute that to the fact that I am still taking Zofran religiously. At the first hint of nausea, I pop a Zofran. I told the pharmacist this week that I'm not sure if the nausea would turn into vomiting, but I don't even want to chance it. Once I start vomiting, I can't stop without the help of Zofran. Thankfully I've only had one weekend full of throwing up - I had ran out of Zofran, and had to wait until the next Monday to get a refill because I didn't want to go to the ER for it. I've thrown up much less this pregnancy than I did with Evelyn, simply because I've had a steady supply of Zofran.

How this pregnancy is different than the first:
-I've gained less weight so far with this baby compared to Evelyn. Which is fine and dandy because my midwife at Pendleton was urging me to slow down on the weight gain. I'd leave each appointment crying because I thought he thought I was fat. Gosh, haha.
-I am not napping whenever I want, like I was able to do with Evelyn. I'm obviously much more busy than I was with Evelyn.
-I'm exercising during this pregnancy - I've kept up with my Stroller Warrior runs (for the most part), and Monday morning yoga (for the most part). I've continued registering for runs as well. The only exercise I got with Evelyn was taking Toby for short walks, and prenatal yoga once.
-I'm in one place for this pregnancy, and it likely won't change until after the baby is born. With Evelyn I was in Minnesota, moved out to California, went back to Minnesota for a month on PCS leave, and then moved out to Okinawa (where we lived in a hotel for nearly a month, then one house, and then had to move to the house we're in now).

How the big sister was this week: Evelyn has been busy, as usual.  She's been a little sick -- it is only noticeable at night; she'll wake herself up coughing / hacking. We are borrowing a vaporizer / humidifier from Jess to try and help her breathe a bit easier. Other than that, she's really enjoying singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and the ABCs by herself.

The best moment(s) of this past week:
Easter was pretty great. We went to church, and then spent the day at Jess' house with her family, plus Amber and her son, Declan. Last Easter we were by ourselves and spent it at the beach -- which was great. This year, however, it was great that Jess was here so we could all hang out. The weather wasn't beautiful enough for the beach, unforunately.

I'm looking forward to:
-Dan coming home, though it won't be for a little bit longer. Today when I was going onto base, there was a guy walking whose haircut resembled Dan's. The back of this guy's head made me miss Dan, haha. Silly.
-The Ayahashi Road Race, which is tomorrow morning. I'll be running the 10k with Evelyn in the stroller. This run is really pretty -- over a bridge -- so I am looking forward to it. I hope the wind dies down by then, though.
-Getting Toby into the vet for his annual vaccinations. This isn't really that exciting, I'll just be happy and relieved once it is all done.
