Days 16-19 of Thankfulness.

16. I am thankful that one of the guys that Dan worked with in California is here.  We had him over on Friday for supper, and they have been hanging out all weekend. On Saturday, the three of them (Dan, Brett, and Evelyn) were headed up to the aquarium before I had to recall them because they took the house key with them. Brett is very good with Evelyn, and enjoys Toby's company, too. He's a pretty cool guy, and I am glad that Dan has someone from the team out here that he is close to.

17. I am thankful for trying new things, food-wise. I am not very brave when it comes to trying to add things to the list of foods I like to eat. It makes me nervous that I won't like it, and then I'll feel like throwing up, and that would just be rude, disgusting, and unfortunate. This past week I tried pecan pie. I don't know if I had ever had pecan pie before, but I was adamant that I didn't like it. Jess and Jon had bought a pecan pie and I begrudgingly tried it. Well guess what? I like it. Who would've thunk it.

18. I am thankful that Dan was able to be home with us on Evelyn's second birthday, which was yesterday. Last year, we had a small family get together before he left, and celebrated their birthdays together since he was going to be gone. It was nice to spend the day as a family. Last year was nice, too -- my friends made sure that we weren't hanging out at home alone, and we had a little shindig at the food court in at the BX, complete with a tiara for Evelyn and a little cup of ice cream. So despite having great memories for her 1st birthday, her 2nd birthday trumps everything because we were able to be together as a family.

19. I am thankful that I have dishes to do nearly every day, because it means we have enough food to keep ourselves healthy. I am reminding myself of this as I am taking a break from my big sink full of dishes from Evelyn's birthday meal last night.  :)

Pictures from our weekend will be up later this week, including her birthday pictures. On Saturday, I volunteered for the Kadena Special Olympics, so I will be back with a post about that, too.
