Recently.

I realized this weekend that while I've been trying to somewhat regularly update the blog, it is usually just photos with very little commentary. Yes, photos allow our families and friends in the States to see what is going on, but I want to be in the habit of doing more than just that.

So, let's see. Today Dan and I both start up classes. Dan is on a quarter system, which I've never been on, so I'm not really familiar with when one quarter ends and another begins. I'm on a semester system but am taking an 8 week class, which ends in December. This is one of my last three classes until I am done with my undergraduate degree. Hallelujah! Anyway - we both start classes today although my class doesn't really start until our middle-of-the-night Tuesday...since that is when Monday morning is in the States.

This weekend we didn't do anything too wild and crazy. Dan worked late on Friday, we ran errands most of Saturday, attended church on Sunday and then ran even more errands. We did buy a bookshelf yesterday, so that was exciting. Our books were starting to spill out of our government loaner bookshelf and we needed one of our own, anyway. Evelyn and I played at the park while Dan waited in line to get his haircut (anytime after 9am on Sunday is not a good time to get your hair cut on base).

Last week, Evelyn and Evan painted pumpkins. Last year, we didn't do anything Halloweenie. On the actual day of Halloween, I put Evelyn in her bumblebee costume to get a few pictures and that was it. This year, she and Evan are going trick-or-treating as a semi-famous cartoon character pair. Jess and I bought the fabric last week and need to get to putting them together ASAP.

We've been renting a car for the past week because our little Midge is getting the JCI done. There were many fixes that needed to be made but fixing it was the cheaper option (between that and buying another car). The car we are renting is a cool little Toyota Vitz. I don't think there are Vitzes in the States so I'll include a picture. It is a cute, snappy little car.

I'll be bummed to return it tomorrow because it is a fun little car to drive but I'll also be glad it is going back. Since it is going back it means that either A) Our Midge-car is done being fixed and JCIed, B) We have bought a second car, or C) both A & B. Ideally "C" would be the outcome, because then I can have a car, and Dan can drive the Midge to work.

We are still waiting on our homecoming photos, if anyone remembers that I promised I'd share them. It has been more than four months. I didn't really know what to do beyond asking the photographer (twice) how things were coming along, so I got in touch with the organization. I assume the organization got in touch with her as they said they would, because when I messaged her about a week later, she finally responded.

It has been disappointing and frustrating to me to be waiting so long for the photos, but there isn't much else I can say without perhaps being slanderous. So we'll leave it at that. I received a response from her that said that when she was done processing the paying clients, she would then begin editing the OpLove sessions. Which leads me to think that I am, perhaps, not the only one still waiting.

That photographer is leaving the island later this month or early next, so she wasn't in the running to take our family photos this year. She wouldn't have been able to even if I wanted her to because she recently (this year) switched from doing family photography to pregnancy, newborn, and through one year photos. Since I am not pregnant, we do not have a newborn, and Evelyn will be TWO (in less than a month - ahh), she was not an option. However I am exciting to be working with the new photographer - we'll have our photos taken sometime after Evelyn's birthday on the 18th. I may end up showing you our family photos / her 2 year photos before I our homecoming photos.

I don't think I mentioned it but I am selling my bib for the Shouhashi half. I wasn't really quite on track with training before I went to the States and despite bringing all my gear, I did not run at all while in the States. I've decided instead that I will either train from the Nago 1/2 marathon in February, or the Okinawa City marathon in March or April. I'm bummed that I signed up, intended on doing it, and then didn't follow through with my training. It was a better idea to sell my bib, though, than try to run it without training. That's just asking for an injury.

One more thing - we put Evelyn up on the waitlist for gymnastics at the AF base last week. It is a "Mommy and Me" type class, and I think she'll have a lot of fun in it. We also bought her a small trampoline with a handlebar (for her birthday) because she has been a little jumping bean since we got back from the States.

Soo that is a very random update of what has been going on with us lately. I'm sorry that it is so long.
