May is a busy, busy month. It starts off with the celebration of Golden Week, although Golden Week actually begins on April 29th, to celebrate the birthday of a former Emperor. On May 5th, it is Children's Day (also known as Boy's Day), which is...you guessed it...celebrating children.
On Children's Day this month, we'll be participating in Kadena's 2nd annual National Down Syndrome Society's Buddy Walk. It is only a mile long, but for a great cause. One of my absolute favorite ladies I used to work with had Down Syndrome, so I am excited to participate in the Buddy Walk.
Today, however, May 1st, is an important day for our family. Daniel is being promoted, or "picking up" his next rank today. Of course we can't physically be there, but we are with him in spirit. He said that pictures will be taken, so that will be nice to be able to see later. We'll share the pictures with family via email for sure, but I'm not sure if they'll be put up on the blog.
Other fun things we are looking forward to in May:
- Evelyn is 18 months. That's only 1/2 year away from being TWO. Eek.
- I have my second 10k, on May 27th.
- Evelyn's best buddy has his 1st birthday at the end of the month.
- A MASSAGE. I go for a massage this afternoon, thanks to two really thoughtful friends. They're watching Evelyn, and I get to go be pampered for an hour. I'm so thankful. :)
- Possibly camping at Okuma with Stroller Warriors Okinawa, after hiking Hiji Falls (we hiked Hiji Falls when Dan's Dad and step-Mom came to visit).
- Beginning to train for our first tri (in June) ... more on this later.
- May is one step closer to June, which is my birthday month, and other exciting happenings. :)
