Time flies when you're having fun, right? Somehow our little baby is five months old already. I remember giggling to myself when at around 4.5 months old, Dan was telling a story from work and said, "...and I have a three month old baby!" That's how fast time goes - so quickly that you may not realize your babe is already so much older.
I think a baby's age may not be as important to some guys, which is why there was the error in Dan's story. Not that his coworkers knew or cared and not that I cared either, it was just cute. I, myself, am very aware of her age but that's probably because we're connected at the hip 24/7. When someone asked how old she was this weekend it was hard for me to say "5 months" instead of "She'll be 5 months in 3 days."
Anyhow, moving on...
Though she rolled both ways for the first time in her fourth month, it hasn't become her favorite thing to do. She rolled from tummy to back approximately four times total and from back to tummy once. She really has no interest, though. If she's through with tummy time, she's through - to heck with rolling over.
In place of rolling over she seems to favor sitting. She can sit great propped in the corner of the couch and can even go a few seconds on the bed (or like yesterday, a blanket in Marek Park) solo. She thinks she's the coolest - and I agree with her. If she's not sitting she's wanting to stand; she gets easily bored of laying on her back, playing with toys.
This past month she not only found her feet (which I was so excited about) but she also found that she can reach them to her mouth. Case in point below:
She still seems to be working on teeth and was very, very fussy for about a week early in the fourth month. She hasn't been as fussy since but everything goes into her mouth, which is the norm, of course. She likes to chomp on cold washcloths and has really perfected her Sophie-chomping skills.
At her four month appointment she was in the 80th percentile for height and weight and the 90th for her head circumference. Girl has a big brain! She's wearing 6 month clothes but still some 3-6m items if they don't have built in feet. She can still fit into 3m onesies if she doesn't have a cloth diaper on. Those days are numbered, though.
We started the introduction to a sippy cup the weekend before she turned five months old. She has been staring us down when we're drinking or eating anything and if we offer it to her, she tries to quickly shove it into her mouth before we can get our hands (and the food item) out of reach. She's fast but not that fast.
The first drink of water she had was out of a water bottle. Later that day at the BX we got her some Nuk sippies. She seems to prefer chewing on the spout rather than suckling on it. We got her a ThinkBaby sippy and that is more conducive to drinking; I think it is because the spout is softer.
She still enjoys bath time and also still enjoys being read to. During the past month she's become very interested in looking at the book instead of just listening. She tries to grab it and stuff it in her mouth - maybe she thinks she can ingest the story, who knows.
Her sleep habits have regressed and she's waking a lot in the night which goes along with the common "4 month wakeful" period. Newsflash, baby: now you're five months old, please go back to sleeping nicely. Oh, it doesn't work that way? Dang...
Somewhere during her fourth month she has started to clasp her hands together and wave them up and down. It's pretty cute. She also flaps her little wings (or that's what we call it), which is exactly what it sounds like.
That's her fourth month in a nutshell - and we're already a week into her fifth month.
