Tsunami.

As many of you have probably seen on the news, Japan has been hit with a couple really big earthquakes this past weeks. Earthquakes aren't anything out of the norm for the Japanese but two big, 7+ quakes within days of each other is rather out of the norm.

If you're out of the loop you can read this article at BBC. I was mistaken; I thought today's biggest quake was around a 7.9 but BBC is saying it was an 8.9. Eh now that I check USGS I see that it was an 8.9.

The earthquake has triggered tsunami warnings throughout Japan and also parts of Russia. Okinawa was under a tsunami warning but nothing as horrible as what has been hitting mainland.

Here is a list put out by the Japan Meteorological Agency of the forecasted regions and the classification of intensity. The Okinawa islands are in a warning; a "warning" means there are waves that are estimated to be up to two meters high.

So ... all in all, we're a-okay but keep people on mainland in your thoughts.

  1. Know that there are many here on the other side of the world thinking about you and praying for you and everyone in the region. I can't even imagine how far reaching the effects will be of such massive devastation. I hope the benefits of all the US Military on the island will be appreciated and the relationships between locals and military personnel made stronger in the long run.

Big hugs and lots of love to you!

  2. Raechel - thanks for the update. Immediately when I heard about this, I worried about you. Appreciate knowing that you're okay, but we'll certainly keep thinking about you. Stay on land, stay dry and keep that lil' babe of yours happy.
