Little Miss...

As many of you readers know, we did not have a name picked out for the little lady until the end. Well, not even the end -- she spent her first whole day out in the world without a name. Before our anatomy scan and when I was convinced (with what I called my mother's intuition -- it was wrong) she was a boy, we had a boy name picked out. Girl names, though? Oofta. It may come as some surprise that our little lady actually left the hospital with a name!

Her name is ... Juggy! "Wait...what?"

Juggy can't be my name!

We were skyping this morning with my Mom and my sister when I asked my sister if she was going to come up with a special nickname for her niece. When she was younger I took to calling her "Woogie" -- I'm not sure where it came from but it stuck and she'll forever be my Woogie. I was hoping that she'd want to do something similar for our baby. The first name she threw out there was "Juggy".

I laughed and when I told Dan, he laughed too. Woogie ultimately decided on "Nuggy" (like nugget, maybe?) instead of Juggy, but it was too silly not to share. I hope Woogie remembers Nuggy's sweet nickname as she'll probably be bummed we didn't give her the middle name she suggested, which is Rae. Nuggy is way cooler, right? Yes, that's what I hope you'll tell her if you talk to her. Nuggy is a one of a kind name. So is Juggy...

Moving on. Baby's real name is Evelyn. Little Miss Evelyn Elizabeth. A cool, coincidental fact -- her first two initials and the number of letters in our last name share the first two initials and the number of letters as a famous poet, e. e. cummings.

Today is her first full day home. She "met" Aunt Elizabeth this morning (Elizabeth's early evening) on Skype, then she met Grandma Susan and Aunt Allison later on. The rest of the day was spent sleeping in Momma's arms, being cuddled by Dad, making ridiculously cute faces, and providing us with plenty of dirty diapers. She's at six so far and it isn't even 6PM yet.

Toby seems to think she's tolerable, if not nifty. He was more excited to see me when we got home than he was to check out what was in the car seat but he did take a couple good sniffles and snuffles at her. He is really interested when she makes a little squeak -- his ears perk up and he seems to remember that there are three humans here now instead of only two.

What is this being? She smells kind of good.

I'll share details about her birth sometime later in the week. It is extremely difficult to want to do anything other than hold her. I had a couple hours early this afternoon that she was fast asleep and could've easily been laid down elsewhere so I could complete homework but I opted just to hold her instead and work on the homework tomorrow. This could become problematic.

Tonight Dan is cooking! :) He's on base right now, getting a haircut and getting dog food because I didn't realize we were low when he went on an errands run last night. Evelyn and I haven't been going with him because I don't know when it is okay to bring a newborn out in public with all the germs. We'll be going out tomorrow to her first doctor's appointment and other errands but when is it okay to bring her out on shopping trips and the like? Opinions?

This was her last picture taken in the hospital, in her carseat, ready to rock and roll. Her "coming home" outfit was super special, we picked it out at the Air Force Base Exchange and I knew that had to be the one she came home in. She had brown pants with pink polka dots, little socks that had looked like pink sneakers, a pink cardigan with a cupcake on it, and the best part...a little onesie that says "I ♥ Daddy". I should've gotten a picture of it but didn't. There will be other photo opportunities, though, as it is a newborn size and that's the only size that is close to remotely fitting her right now. She swims in everything else.

  1. She is adorable. And it's so wonderful to hear from "Momma Rae". You not being able to put her down is just too cute.

I'm no baby expert, but conventional wisdom says 6 weeks before going out, I think. Although everyone does things differently. I was at Starbucks recently and a mother mentioned to another that the baby with her was 2 weeks old. And it's really cold here! I think you should do what feels right to YOU.
