The year she was born.

I'd like to make a list of important events that happened in 2010 for our baby to look back on when she's old enough to be interested.

Please leave a comment with an event that I can add, especially with "around the world" events. My brain is not fully cooperating at this time and I know there are more important events that have occurred.

Also, if you're family or friends of family -- please leave a comment with something "close to home"! I'm looking at you! Yes, you -- grandparents, great-grandparents, great aunts and uncles, and cousins!

Thank you for helping me compile this list!

Around the World
    •    On January 12, 2010, an earthquake in Haiti took the lives of approximately 300,000 people.
    •    Part of a mine collapsed in Chile on August 5, 2010, trapping 33 men for over 60 days. They were rescued on October 13, 2010.
    •    There was a giant oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. There aren't enough words to describe the damage it caused (and is still causing) before it was able to be contained.
    •    There was deadly flooding in Pakistan.
    •    Washington D.C. legalizes gay marriage.
    •    The FIFA World Cup took place in South Africa. We Americans call this 'soccer' but almost the whole rest of the world calls it 'futbol'. Spain won.

Close to Home
    •     Mom & Dad got married on March 15, 2010 in San Marcos, California, surrounded by the guys that worked with your Daddy. When we walked out of the room, one of them yelled, "THEY JUST GOT MARRIED!"
    •    Aunt Elizabeth came back from Kenya.
    •    Uncle Zach graduated from high school and began his first semester at South Dakota State University.
    •    Aunt Allison started 2nd grade.
    •    Honorary Aunt Jackie graduated from The Ohio State University in the spring. Momma was supposed to go with Jackie's family to go to the ceremony but she was too sick with "morning" sickness.
    •    Honorary Uncle Duck enlisted in the Navy Reserves and completed his training. He was Honor Graduate of his class.
    •    Mom quit her job and moved out to California. We lived in a small apartment in Oceanside from April until the middle of July. It was very cozy; a nice first apartment.
  • On July 26, we had a belated wedding reception. Many people came and shared their support and love with us. It was a great time!
  •    In August Mom, Dad, and Toby moved to Okinawa, Japan for Dad's job. You were born on this island! We were bid farewell at the Minneapolis airport by one set of your grandparents (Mom's parents), your Aunt Elizabeth, and Honorary Aunt Jackie.
